My name is Trevor
I often wear brightly coloured shirts.
I will be maintaining a blog with fortnightly posts.
I'm reminded of doing assignments when I was younger. Specifically, I remember always doing the title page first. It's important. It's the first thing you see. It sets the tone of the piece. It can make or break a work. These feeble sayings were some of the excuses and justifications that I made to myself and others as to why, before I'd even opened a book or started my research, I completed this act.
There were two real reasons for me doing this:
1. It was easy.
2. It was creative.
These two facets of my life have often fought for dominance. Rarely did I complete a project with the fervor that the title page was done with. My parents often confronted me on the fact. "Have you done any work on the assignment?" "I've done the title page." "Well, as long as that's done." would come the sarcastic reply. Their common argument that the title page should reflect the content of the assignment. How could I complete an effective title page if I don't know what the content is yet.
You know what, my parents were right. The title page should be a sneak peek of the delights that follow. A tease of the work and dedication within. A juicy morsel to send our mental taste buds into a frenzy before the main course begins. But for me, it was a ritual. A habit to have the ability to say "I've done something. I'm not at the zero point." Some habits we grow out of.
Some, we don't.
So here I sit, with my next big (oddly voluntary) project before me and what do I do? I come up with the name. Life in a Brightly Coloured Shirt. I can imagine nine year old me drawing pictures and colouring them in and when he finished would be satisfied with a good night's work. The colours on the page slowly burning through your retinas.
I am not my nine year old self anymore. I've grown. Some may occasionally say matured.
I may have some of the same habits, but I am constantly learning.
I have a title. I'm no longer at the zero point.
I also have a purpose and a few ideas.
My name is Trevor.
I often wear brightly coloured shirts.
I no longer let that define me.
I will be maintaining a blog with fortnightly posts.
They might be long, they might be short.
Some may be funny, some may be insightful, some may be nonsense, but all of them will reveal some truth about me.
I welcome the challenge.
